Another character sketch. This time it's Joshua's mom-- isn't she darling? Lookit all those adorable freckles :)

Paint!
I thought I'd share this, because I think it's nifty, even if it is just a bunch of paint thrown on a sheet of paper.
I painted this over another painting I did. Actually, there are two paintings under the one you see here. I painted this one slowly over the course of a couple weeks. I just picked up some paint and added to it at random when I felt the need... and this is what I ended up with. Of course, I took some closeup shots while it was in progress, and a few of them look really wicked cool, so I think I'll show you those as well!

Wow
So, that's two days in a row I haven't posted anything. I'm slipping. But I have an excuse! I really do! I went on a day trip to Santa Cruz with my girls, and then the next day we had people over to the apartment so I was busy. And, I'm still kinda busy, because I started cleaning the living room, and now my desk is a mess because I've just been putting things on it... so I need to finish cleaning everything, I guess, or I can't work. So I don't really know how long all of that is going to take. Might finish cleaning tonight, maybe not. So, just in case I don't get on to post tomorrow... Here's something with color!!!

My bad.
Ok, so I didn't post yesterday. And, there's no art today either. Sorry. My bad. But I can show you what I did yesterday! You wanna see that, don't you? Of course you do! Here, lookit this thing I got from my friend Nic who is sadly moving away ;(
That thingy on the front slides up and down! And it's got a thingy on the back so that it sits at an angle. It's a travel drawing board thingy!! Well, I changed up the back a little bit, because it was missing one of it's thingies. Anyway, check it out!
I found a hardware store, and got some heavy wire to make that thing you see there. The board already had those black thingies you see there, but they were at the bottom, so I flipped the board upside down. Moved the handle to the top and BAM it's right side up again!
It took me a little wile to figure out how to do this part, but I think it works pretty well. I've got yarn tied to both legs of that mettle thing, and hooked to the board so it doesn't push the legs out from under itself. Pretty nifty, huh? Well I think so anyway. Now I don't have to draw on the back of an old cacanvas board when I take my work away from my desk. I've got this thingy!

More Art!
Lookit what I made yesterday!
And there's a video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKFsrpUYECk Watch it! Do it! Anyway, I think I want to paint this one too. I think it'd look good in color. Anyway, it's pretty much impossible to ruin something that looks this strange, so it couldn't hurt.

Weee!
Since I've been slacking, I decided to NOT slack yesterday, and I actually drew something. Think I'm happy with the way he looks now.
Well, happier, anyway. He doesn't look quite so silly anymore. For one, the proportions on his face are actually correct- or correctish, since he's all stylized and shit. The point is that he doesn't look stupid anymore! Yay! I did stuff yesterday!

Uuum...
More sketchbook doodles today, because I've been slacking and not actually drawing anything new. I did yoga yesterday. I hurt. Like ow. Seriously. I can't lift my arms above my head right now. Yoga is brutal shit. Anyway, here's some art:
Weee! Floating trees!

...
I'm not really sure what to say about this one. It's just a sketchbook doodle, but it's really nifty and I'm quite fond of it, so here you are. Today's post:

Aliens!!
Let's do aliens today!
So this is Dax. He's a fun character, likes sneaking onto ships and hitchhiking through space, that sort of thing. His build is smaller than your average human, he's thinner and lighter... I think he might be a little bit amphibious. I haven't quite figured that out yet (and how can he be just a "little bit amphibious"? hehe)
Right, now this guy is really fun too. His name is Ad. Haven't come up with a species name for him either. But this character is loads of fun. Lots of energy. He likes to run and jump all over everything. Playful thing, he is.

Derp? lol
These are a couple of character sketches for that thing I'm working on. I'm not completely happy with them yet. I'mma have to do a lot of messing around with them before I get something I'm pleased with, but as it stands, this is my first attempt with these guys.
This is Adam. Isn't he adorable?
Aaaand, this is Joshua. He's really the one I'm not happy with. Don't think I've completely decided what he should look like yet.

Holly crap, I can title my posts??
Yo, I'm actually going to spend most of today cleaning my kitchen... because my kitchen is a mess, and I'm breading gnats in there. I'm not exactly sure WHERE they're breading, though, so I'll have to clean the whole thing to find out. *shudders* Gnats. Everywhere. Hundreds of them!
Anyway, I've decided to post something everyday, so here we are. Today you get.... A MOOSE!

And not jut a Moose, but a happy Moose! So, in my Heads and Hands 2 class, we were doing an exercise that was supposed to loosen us up. We traded drawing boards with a classmate, drew some sort of wonkey shape, and traded back. We had five minutes or so to make a face out of what they'd drawn-- and the shape that my partner drew for me was so out there that all I could think was to turn it into a Moose. So there you go!

Alrighty so I'm watching Farscape while I'm writing this, so you'll have to excuse me if this is a bit choppy. These are from a while ago, done on paper bought for me by my good friend Deuce. They're pretty big, not that you can really tell.. I need to get higher res. camera (that's what it is, right? Resolution? Fuck, I dunno.)
This one started out with just a black marker and a glass of bad rum, then somewhere along the way I decided to break out the water color. It's not watercolor paper, but it held up really well.
This one is just straight up black marker. Weeeeee!
Now this one... This one is pretty intense. Again, it has everything to do with this past semester. All the work was making me feel like shit, so I took it out on my awesome-sturdy paper. That's acrylic paint, by the way. I've actually painted over that now, several layers actually. This paper is pretty tough.

Right, so, first things first. Let's start off with an art-dump, because I've been five kinds of busy this semester. I'm kicking things off with a sampling of some of my early-semester work. The following are charcoal drawings are from my Clothed Figure Drawing 3 class, a selection from the beginning of the semester to midterms. Observe:
Pretty decent, I think. Now lets take a look at the second half of the semester:
Holy crap, would you look at that! Is that a touch of sophistication I see? I think it is! Good to know that it's worth all the tuition fees, isn't it mom?
Ok, now lets look at another class: Eccentric Illustration. Let me start by saying that this class was... worth it. It was a pain in the ass, but it was worth the knowledge I gained in suffering through it-- and just on the off chance that David actually comes across the page, I'd like to clarify that 'suffering' is also a general term that I would apply to my entire semester. This semester SUCKED giant donkey bawls, but I learned a lot even if I felt like giving up for most of it. So, without any further yammering from me, here's what I did in Eccentric Illustration:
Ok, ok, not so bad for the first project. Let me take a moment here to point out the reason that this class was so difficult: It was really f-ing vague! I had no idea what I was doing half the time.
This piece was actually a response to a rather harsh critique. I'd had trouble coming up with ideas, so.. naturally I was scolded for not bringing in enough work in the preliminary stages, so I turned around and angrily scribbled out what would eventually turn into the illustration above. That's me, by the way, working away slavishly at my desk. The four ghouls (or whatever you wanna call 'em), are my teachers this past semester. You'll notice how a couple of them look like they want to eat me...
This piece was the most fun, I think. The assignment was propaganda, and I was tired of thinking so hard to come up with ideas, that I just borrowed a theme from Repo! the Genetic Opera. If you don't know what that is... well, your loss. It's awesome. You can watch it on Netflix. Go, go! Shoo! Watch it!
Aaand here we have the final project for that class. This is also a metaphor for how I've been feeling this semester. I'm not going to explain it. It should be pretty obvious.
Alright, enough of that. What else did I do? Oh, yes, you should see the final projects for my Heads and Hands 2 class:
David Bowie! OMG no wai! The assignment was to produce a drawing with a head and two hands in the picture. Since I didn't feel like making up my own character, I used David Bowie. Because that's how I roll. This one was done in pastel, so I'm actually surprised by how well it turned out (I never touched pastels before this class).
We also had to do a painting in acrylic. This... should have turned out better, but I finished with minutes to spare, so.. there you are. Naturally, everything I hate about this was the first things people said they liked. Eh, what can you do?
This isn't a final, but it IS the best painting I did in class this semester. I'm quite fond of this one, so I thought I'd post it. Mmm, how about a detail shot?
There we go. We decided that he looks like his computer just crashed in the middle of something important. The moment before the epic freak-out. The 'um, wat?' moment before all hell breaks loose.
I suppose the only thing left to show you is the project from my Comics 2 class, but... I haven't quite figured out how to photograph that so you can actually see it yet (also, I haven't put in any word balloons yet soo... you don't get to see those.) Anyway, this was a pretty big art-dump. Think I'll stop now. Tah!
