Right, so, first things first. Let's start off with an art-dump, because I've been five kinds of busy this semester. I'm kicking things off with a sampling of some of my early-semester work. The following are charcoal drawings are from my Clothed Figure Drawing 3 class, a selection from the beginning of the semester to midterms. Observe:
Pretty decent, I think. Now lets take a look at the second half of the semester:
Holy crap, would you look at that! Is that a touch of sophistication I see? I think it is! Good to know that it's worth all the tuition fees, isn't it mom?
Ok, now lets look at another class: Eccentric Illustration. Let me start by saying that this class was... worth it. It was a pain in the ass, but it was worth the knowledge I gained in suffering through it-- and just on the off chance that David actually comes across the page, I'd like to clarify that 'suffering' is also a general term that I would apply to my entire semester. This semester SUCKED giant donkey bawls, but I learned a lot even if I felt like giving up for most of it. So, without any further yammering from me, here's what I did in Eccentric Illustration:
Ok, ok, not so bad for the first project. Let me take a moment here to point out the reason that this class was so difficult: It was really f-ing vague! I had no idea what I was doing half the time.
This piece was actually a response to a rather harsh critique. I'd had trouble coming up with ideas, so.. naturally I was scolded for not bringing in enough work in the preliminary stages, so I turned around and angrily scribbled out what would eventually turn into the illustration above. That's me, by the way, working away slavishly at my desk. The four ghouls (or whatever you wanna call 'em), are my teachers this past semester. You'll notice how a couple of them look like they want to eat me...
This piece was the most fun, I think. The assignment was propaganda, and I was tired of thinking so hard to come up with ideas, that I just borrowed a theme from Repo! the Genetic Opera. If you don't know what that is... well, your loss. It's awesome. You can watch it on Netflix. Go, go! Shoo! Watch it!
Aaand here we have the final project for that class. This is also a metaphor for how I've been feeling this semester. I'm not going to explain it. It should be pretty obvious.
Alright, enough of that. What else did I do? Oh, yes, you should see the final projects for my Heads and Hands 2 class:
David Bowie! OMG no wai! The assignment was to produce a drawing with a head and two hands in the picture. Since I didn't feel like making up my own character, I used David Bowie. Because that's how I roll. This one was done in pastel, so I'm actually surprised by how well it turned out (I never touched pastels before this class).
We also had to do a painting in acrylic. This... should have turned out better, but I finished with minutes to spare, so.. there you are. Naturally, everything I hate about this was the first things people said they liked. Eh, what can you do?
This isn't a final, but it IS the best painting I did in class this semester. I'm quite fond of this one, so I thought I'd post it. Mmm, how about a detail shot?
There we go. We decided that he looks like his computer just crashed in the middle of something important. The moment before the epic freak-out. The 'um, wat?' moment before all hell breaks loose.
I suppose the only thing left to show you is the project from my Comics 2 class, but... I haven't quite figured out how to photograph that so you can actually see it yet (also, I haven't put in any word balloons yet soo... you don't get to see those.) Anyway, this was a pretty big art-dump. Think I'll stop now. Tah!

Hey - I LOVE IT! - just a thought can't you scan your Comics in instead of photographing them? Nice that you didn't need to have the "talk bubbles" in just the drawing. Still I'd love to see the one that almost killed ya. BTW I really love the one from Eccentric w/ the 4 monsters - actually I really liked all of the ones from that class...
ReplyDeleteMm, the comics are too big for my scanner. I'd have to go all the way down to the library and I'm LAZY >__<
